BeppoSAX broad–band observations of Gamma Cassiopeiae
We report broad-band X-ray measurements of the Be star γ Cassiopeiae by the BeppoSAX X-ray astronomy satellite. The observations took place on 1998 July, 18–23. The 0.1– 200 keV X-ray spectrum is reasonably well fit by an optically thin thermal plasma model of temperature 12.5±0.6 keV with significant residuals around 0.3 keV and 1 keV. The former is interpreted as the variable soft component r...
متن کاملApsidal Motion Determination of the Eclipsing Binary Star V459 Cassiopeiae
Photometric and spectroscopic observations and analysis of the eccentric eclipsing binary V459 Cassiopeiae (e = 0.0244) were performed by Lacy et al. (2004). Observations of minimum light show the presence of apsidal motion. In order to find the observed rate of apsidal motion, I followed the procedure described by Guinan & Maloney (1985). A new observed rate of apsidal motion of 15◦.2/100 yr w...
متن کاملRadar observations of 8P/Tuttle: A contact-binary comet
Arecibo radar imagery of Comet 8P/Tuttle reveals a 10-km-long nucleus with a highly bifurcated shape consistent with a contact binary. A separate echo component was also detected from large (>cm-size), slow-moving grains of the type expected to contribute to the Ursid meteor stream. ! 2009 Elsevier Inc. All rights reserved.
متن کاملThe photometric-amplitude and mass-ratio distributions of contact binary stars
The distribution of the light-variation amplitudes, A(a), in addition to determining the number of undiscovered contact binary systems falling below photometric detection thresholds and thus lost to statistics, can serve as a tool in determination of the massratio distribution, Q(q), which is very important for understanding of the evolution of contact binaries. Calculations of the expected A(a...
